People with chronic diseases or disabilities can regularly take part in supervised,
adapted exercise programmes to maintain or improve their functional ability and quality of life.
Many Tai Chi and Qigong exercises are particularly useful and accessible
types of gentle activity for anyone with a debilitating disease or disability.
With many incurable or degenerative conditions, e.g., rheumatoid or osteoarthritis,
Parkinson's, fibromyalgia, or multiple sclerosis, supervised adapted exercise
can help maintain some degree of functional ability.
This is the principle of Shiyong Tai Chi - functionality to improve quality of life.
NOTE OF CAUTION:
Some 'traditional' exercises practiced in Tai Chi classes may be inappropriate
for people with certain chronic degenerative diseases, conditions or disabilities.
It is strongly recommended that when choosing a Tai Chi teacher
that checks be made regarding their professional qualifications and training
to be sure of the teacher's ability to provide suitable, safe, and effective exercise
